Programmes suspended and cut ‘to the detriment of excellent researchers’, says FWF

The Austrian Science Fund, Austria’s main public funder of basic research, has complained that it has had to cut or suspend five programmes due to insufficient funds, as the national government transitions their funding source to a new footing.

A programme for young independent research groups is among three that have been suspended for 2021 and could be suspended for 2022, while two more programmes covering research groups and special research projects have had their funding cut, the funder known as the FWF said on 17 February.
