Hungarian government in spotlight over academic freedom

     

Scholars at Risk network calls for international pressure, but government defends policies and motives

The international academic freedom network Scholars at Risk has called on the Hungarian government to “restore and protect university autonomy” in Hungary, and has asked other governments to pile pressure on it to do so.

In a submission to a United Nations review of human rights, published on 13 April, SAR said the Hungarian government should reverse course on several long-standing issues.
