Independent academies work, report finds

Independent higher education academies have helped Denmark to improve the quality and financing of its education sector, according to a report.

A study on the work and impact of independent higher education academies, produced by Rambøll Management Consulting, shows that the academies have played a significant role in moving towards the government objective of 60 per cent of students going to higher education by 2015.

According to the report the number of full-time higher education places in Denmark has increased by one-fifth since the nine academies were established in 2009. The number of student places in other institutions has also increased by 33 per cent between 2009 and 2012, the report states.
