The Danish government has called on universities to increase the use of undergraduate intake systems that emphasise students' work experience and life skills, rather than grades alone.
Denmark has an undergraduate intake system that divides applicants into two groups—those who want to apply to university based on high school grade only (quota 1), and students who wish to have their work experience counted into the process as well (quota 2).
On 15 March, the Danish government announced that its quota 2 process for 2015 had seen more than 51,000 applicants—which equates to 4 per cent more than last year. In the statement, the government called on universities to consider increasing the use of the alternative intake-systems in the future, so that grades will not be the only entry ticket into university.
