DTU transport work to be downsized

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has announced that it is to shut its department of transport due to budget cuts.

In 2015, the Danish government allocated 40 million Danish kroner (€5m) to transport research in its research reserve, but this has been reduced to kr20m in the 2016 budget.

In a statement on 19 January, DTU said that public cuts meant that was no longer sufficient support for maintaining an independent transport department in the long-term. The existing department employs about 80 personnel. DTU said that it would launch an assessment of the transport department to decide which sub-areas should continue within other departments at the institution.
