The cuts for universities and research in Finland's recent budget for 2012 are part of a 'normalisation' of spending after a period of heavy investment, a Finnish MP has told the Academy of Finland.
In an interview on the academy’s website, Raija Vahasalo, member of the Parliamentary committee on culture, defended the government’s decision announced on 5 October to trim the national science budget by €171 million, or 6 per cent, in 2012 as compared to this year.
