Finns help Europeans get a say in shaping science

The Finnish consumer research centre, Kuluttajatutkimuskeskus, will coordinate a €1 million programme to encourage citizen participation in the development and realisation of European research programmes.

Public Engagement Innovations for Horizon 2020 is a three-year programme funded by Framework 7 with €1 million. It will include citizen panels and forums, crowdsourcing activities, simulations of decision-making processes, and online participation activities. The idea is to raise the public’s interest and involvement in research, and to pilot models of participation in order to tackle challenges that Horizon 2020 is meant to address.

Participants of the programme are the University of Helsinki, the University of Aarhus in Denmark, the International Business School at Vilnius University in Lithuania, and the Laboratorio Di Scienze Della Cittadinanza in Rome.
