Infrastructure roadmap presented

The Finnish government has chosen 31 national research infrastructure projects that it will support from 2014 to 2020, according to a report published by a major funder.

The projects were chosen by the Academy of Finland, the government research funding agency. Projects endorsed include Aalto University’ nanotechnology lab, a bioeconomy research alliance between Aalto and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the national digital library programme at the University of Helsinki, and a Finnish marine research that is part of the country’s environmental agency Syke.

“We cannot fund all infrastructures, so we have to prioritise,” said Finland’s education minister Krista Kiuru. “Cooperation on research infrastructures should also be strengthened on the regional, national and international levels.”
