Council seeks input on 2016 themes

Finland’s strategic research council is consulting researchers to inform its preparation of funding areas for next year.

In a statement on 17 March, the funding agency Academy of Finland said that its strategic research council—established to direct funding towards the societal challenges—has begun preparing its 2016 themes. Research organisations and other groups can provide input on the theme choices through an online survey that will close on 15 April.

The strategic research council was established in July 2014. Its three research themes for 2015, announced in January, are: emerging technologies and changing institutions; a climate-neutral society; and an egalitarian society. Funding for the council will be about €56 million in 2015.
