Finnish higher education institutions must get better at recognising and accrediting the prior academic skills of immigrants, a report has said.
Even though immigrants have a great deal of knowledge and prior education before coming to Finland, these are not sufficiently recognised in Finnish working life or the education system, the report, published by the government on 25 September, found.
The report aims to assess the outcomes of two 2016 pilot studies on supporting immigrants in higher education—at the University of Jyväskylä and the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
