Russian mathematician Yakov Sinai has been awarded this year’s Abel Prize by the Norwegian Academy of Sciences.
Sinai is a researcher at Princeton University and is also affiliated to the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, part of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The prize was awarded to Sinai for his work relating to mathematical physics, and in particular the study of dynamical systems.
The announcement was made by the academy of sciences on 26 March. The prize, worth 6 million Norwegian kroner (€730,000), will be presented at a ceremony in Oslo on 20 May.
