Nordforsk backs ESS participation

The Nordic research funder Nordforsk has launched the first call under its neutron research programme, to help researchers access the European Spallation Source.

The Joint Nordic Neutron Science Programme is intended to assist researchers in in subjects other than physics to build up competence so that they can take advantage of the ESS, the neutron-based particle accelerator being built in Lund, Sweden.

“Given that several Nordic countries are investing very heavily in the ESS, it makes sense to ensure that researchers are prepared to use the facility when it opens,” Nordforsk said in a statement on 5 December. “With this in mind, the programme seeks to raise the competency level among younger researchers and new user groups in particular.”
