Researchers say mergers lack financial support

Norway’s national association of researchers has called on the government to ensure that the forthcoming country-wide university merger process is adequately funded.

In a statement on 28 April, Forskerforbundet said that a government white paper outlining plans to merge 14 of the country’s higher education institutions into five universities underestimated the costs involved.

“Successful mergers require involvement from employees at all levels of the process,” the statement read. “We urge the Parliament to ensure that the merger process is fully funded.”
