Norway plans maritime strategy

Norway’s research council Forskningsrådet has begun formulating a research and innovation strategy for the maritime industry.

The Maritim21 plan will bring together ministries, funding agencies, businesses, academia, research centres and other organisations. A committee has been set up to develop the plan, which aims to identify maritime research priorities and opportunities for industry. The committee is chaired by Siri Pettersen Strandene, an economist at the Norwegian School of Economics.

“It is good that we are a broad group from both the research and the commercial side,” said Pettersen Strandene in a statement published on 8 January. “The maritime industry is important for Norway, and maritime expertise has been instrumental in the development of Norway’s oil industry.”
