Polar studies on the rise

Norway’s spending on polar research increased by 15 per cent in real terms between 2010 and 2014, a report has said.

The Norsk Polarforskning report was published by the Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education on 21 January. It states that Norway spent 1.8 billion Norwegian kroner (€190m) on polar research in 2014, an increase of kr440m since 2010.

The aim of the report, which was funded by Norway’s research council Forskningsrådet, was to take stock of polar research in Norway and compare it with that in other countries.
