All parliamentary parties in Norway have signed a declaration promoting academic freedom and urging scientists to participate in public debate.
The agreement was signed at a seminar organised by the Norwegian Association of Researchers on 15 November. The document stated that politicians would “strive to cite researchers correctly and not conceal research results that are contradictory to their own view”.
Petter Aaslestad, head of the association, said that several issues at the intersection of research, politics and business have shown the need for better dialogue between scientists and policymakers.
