Arvid Hallén, the outgoing director-general of the Research Council of Norway, is to become the chairman of the board of the planned Vestlandet University College.
In a statement on 24 August, the Norwegian government said that Hallén would begin his two-year role at the beginning of next year. The Vestlanded University College, which is the result of a merger between Stord/Haugesund University College, the Bergen University College and the Sogn og Fjordane University College, will be established in January 2017.
Hallén has been the director-general of the Research Council of Norway since 2004. He holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Oslo and previously worked as the director of the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research.
