Russia’s research ships get funding boost

The fleet of research ships run by the Russian Federal Agency for Scientific Organisations (Fano) is to receive an additional 700 million rubles in 2016.

A report on 16 December by the Russian news agency TASS said that the funding has been released following management restructuring, to reduce costs at Fano.

The funding will mean that the research ships will be able to go on expeditions for roughly 80 to 100 days during 2016, compared with the 20 to 25 days planned previously, the TASS article said.
