Eight Russian institutions have teamed up to create an online platform for open education, as part of a nationwide move to increase digital learning.
Higher education institutions including Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University will invest 50 million rubles ($960,000) in the national platform. In a statement on 1 April, the ministry of science and education said that this commitment would be an important step in helping the country to improve its digital learning.
Dmitry Livanov, the deputy minister of education and science, said that it was “absolutely right” that leading universities should lead the way and be held accountable for the quality of online education across the country.
