EIT calls for better alignment of national funding

The European Commission and member states should align funding cycles of similar research programmes, a report from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology has said.

The report, published on 14 November, looks at relationships between the EITs and EU, national, regional and local initiatives. Better alignment between national research programmes would result in better research funding, and thus more innovation, the EIT reasons.

It calls for closer policy alignment and cooperation in education, research and innovation and uses the EIT’s three Knowledge and Innovation Communities as examples of the benefits of such cooperation. It adds that the Climate-KIC, EIT ICT Labs and KIC InnoEnergy should engage with the regional policymakers developing smart specialisation strategies and operational programmes for 2014-20.
