Agriculture collaboration agreed with Africa

The EU and Africa have reached agreement to launch a research and innovation partnership in food and nutrition security.

The partnership, agreed at meetings in Brussels on 29 November, will target improvements in the sustainability of food production. It will mirror the cooperation already undertaken between the two regions in health under the European and Developing Countries’ Clinical Trials Partnership, said the European Commission.

“Enhancing food and nutrition security as well as sustainable agriculture is a challenge common to the EU and Africa, albeit with different dimensions,” said the Commission’s director-general for research, Robert-Jan Smits.
