Latvia plans to modernise science

The Latvian government wants to modernise and integrate research and education and improve its knowledge transfer capabilities, it has said in a strategy released this week.

The document, Science, Technology and Innovation Development Guidelines, 2014 to 2020, outlines six areas where the country plans to improve in order to boost its performance in biotechnology, medical technology, the bioeconomy, materials, energy and ICT.

It was published on 19 December by the ministry of education in collaboration with the ministry of economic affairs, agriculture, environment and regional development.
