MEPs urge Council to sort out budget

The European Parliament has called on member states to agree on the EU budget and start addressing the increasing mountain of unpaid bills for this year.

In a plenary session held in Strasbourg on 25 November, MEPs showed their disappointment with the Council after failing to achieve a deal in the timeframe agreed for the EU budget for 2015.

Eider Gardiazábal Rubial, Spanish MEP for the social-democratic PSD group, told the Council to show the political will needed to address the problem. “Our proposal is easy to understand: we have to pay what we owe,” she said. “We cannot delay payments to citizens, organisations or students”.
