The Swiss government has announced the final awards from its temporary substitute for the European Research Council’s Consolidator Grant fund.
On 19 February, the Swiss National Science Foundation awarded 21 Consolidator Grants under its backup programme to support its researchers while they were unable to apply for ERC funds.
Switzerland’s participation as an associate member in Horizon 2020 was suspended in February 2014, following a national referendum that voted in favour of immigration quotas for EU citizens. However, in September 2014, Swiss researchers regained access to parts of Horizon 2020, under a temporary agreement with the EU that is valid until 31 December 2016.
