The European Environment Agency has called on the EU to take urgent measures to meet its 2050 carbon emissions and circular economy targets.
This message was sent during the presentation on 3 March of The European environment-state and outlook 2015, a five-yearly assessment report produced by the EEA. According to the document, which includes world, regional and national data, "the level of ambition of existing environmental policy may be inadequate to achieve Europe’s long-term environmental goals”.
The report highlights some improvements, such as the 50 per cent increase in the number of green companies between 2000 and 2011, and the 19 per cent reduction in the EU greenhouse emissions since 1990. However, the EEA warns that the EU remains very far away from curbing carbon emissions by 80-95 per cent by 2050.
