Research ministers want Juncker plan to fund R&D

The European Fund for Strategic Investments should include measures to guarantee that research projects receive funding, say EU research ministers.

In a meeting of the Competitiveness Council held on 2 March, the research ministers discussed different ways to ensure that R&D projects receive support from Efsi, to which Horizon 2020 is expected to contribute €2.7 billion.

According to the Latvian minister for science and education Mārīte Seile, the proposal that has received the strongest support so far from both the Council and the European Commission is to include R&D experts in the committee that will select the projects.
