European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker did not meet with a single environmental lobby group during 2015, despite meeting 18 business and industry organisations in one-on-one meetings, figures from Juncker’s website have shown.
“It’s a sad fact that President Juncker has shown little interest in the environment. To our knowledge, in the 14 months since he has taken office, he has not had a single meeting with any environmental organisation,” Jeremy Wates, secretary general of the European Environmental Bureau, told European newspaper EurActiv.
Juncker failed to meet with environmental NGOs, Wates said, despite several requests for meetings from the EEB, a body representing 140 environmental organisations, and Green 10, a group for ten of the largest environmental organisations and networks in Europe.
