EU institutions and member states supplied a total of €17.6 billion last year to help developing countries prepare for the impact of climate change.
The money, which includes spending on innovative technologies and research into climate adaptation, is part of the UN Climate Finance Roadmap. This roadmap commits industrial countries to give US$100bn (€92bn) annually to climate protection in poorer nations.
