Commission to consult on large-scale infrastructure

In 2017 the European Commission will seek input on how the long-term sustainability of large-scale research projects and facilities can be secured.

These large initiatives are facing a number of challenges, the European Commission’s director general of research and innovation, Robert-Jan Smits, said at the EuroScience Open Forum in Manchester on 25 July.

One of these challenges is securing funding. Smits highlighted how the organisations that run large infrastructure projects often have to chase funding from national governments every year.
