Petition calls for Barroso job scrutiny

A group of people claiming to work for the EU have called for an investigation into José Manuel Barroso’s acceptance of a position at the investment bank Goldman Sachs.

A petition was launched on the website change.org by a user account called “EU employees” on 11 July. It calls for “strong exemplary measures” to be taken against the former European Commission president, saying that his new job, which was announced on 8 July, “dishonours the European civil service and the European Union as a whole”.

“It is, at the worst possible moment, a disastrous symbol for the union and a gift horse for the europhobes that a former Commission president is associated with the unbridled and unethical financial values that Goldman Sachs represents,” the petition says.
