Macron turns to business chief for EU industry job

IT company head nominated for digitisation, space and defence research role

France’s president Emmanuel Macron has chosen the chairman and chief executive of IT services company Atos as his new pick to become the country’s European commissioner.

If accepted by the European Parliament, Thierry Breton (pictured), an experienced politician and businessman, is likely to pick up the role of internal market commissioner and take responsibility for industry, digitisation and defence research.
