Hungary defiant on academic freedom despite EU pressure

Concerns of other member states rebuffed as rule of law scrutiny continues

Hungary is sticking to its guns over national legislation that has forced a university to leave the country, despite ongoing pressure from other member states.

The Hungarian government’s chief spokesman, Zoltán Kovács, caused consternation on 10 December when he tweeted the proceedings of a closed-door meeting of national EU ministers.
