A group of EU political advisers is brainstorming ideas on how the European Research Area initiative can further improve the free flow of researchers and knowledge in Europe.
The European Research Area and Innovation Committee (Erac), which advises the European Council, European Commission and EU member states, has set up a working group on the future of the ERA to run from April until the end of 2019.
According to a mandate for the group, adopted on 26 April, it is expected to provide advice on “a new narrative/paradigm on the future of the ERA”, as well as priorities and relevant trends for the initiative. The second of these tasks might involve seeking views from research organisations, an Erac paper said.
