EU ministers have agreed that the bloc should work together with the European Space Agency on a long-term, unified, strategic vision to build Europe’s presence in space.

Ministers, ESA and the European Commission met as the Space Council for the ninth time in Brussels on 28 May, under the theme Space as an Enabler. Ministers, in the form of the Council of the EU, then adopted conclusions to be taken forward, including the need for the strategic vision.

The conclusions underlined the importance of research and technology to space activities, and called for collaboration on space research and innovation to better align space activities with other policies intended to help combat societal challenges.
