Council and MEPs agree on modest top-ups for first year of Horizon Europe and Erasmus+

EU negotiators have agreed what the bloc’s 2021 budget should be, provided its 2021-27 budget framework is rescued from being vetoed by the Hungarian and Polish governments.

Negotiators from the European Parliament and Council of the EU agreed on 4 December that the Horizon Europe R&D programme should get €20 million more in 2021 than the €12.3 billion the European Commission had suggested, while the Erasmus+ academic mobility programme should get €175m more than the €2.9bn proposed.
