Ministers signal support for bolstering EU health agencies

Following calls for international action, EU’s chief governmental representative proposes international pandemic treaty

A “great majority” of EU health ministers have called for the bloc’s drug regulator and public health agency to be given more staff and money to help countries handle health crises like the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the ministerial Council of the EU.

The support for fortifying the European Medicines Agency and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control came after the EMA and ECDC heads addressed ministers at a virtual meeting on 2 December, the Council said.
