Draft plans hint at green decade for R&D

Proposals for European Research Area include spending targets and a ‘Cern for climate change’

Environmental sustainability and collaboration between institutions are at the heart of draft plans for the next decade of EU R&D and higher education policy, Research Europe can reveal.

One document being drafted for adoption by ministers calls on countries to prioritise funding for the European Green Deal, the bloc’s flagship climate neutrality plan. The draft text calls for member states to “commit 20 per cent of their national budgets for the next ten years in transnational activities” towards realising the Green Deal.
