MEPs will attempt to adjust the budget allocations to programmes including Horizon Europe

Research and education organisations have welcomed the European Parliament’s move to increase the budgets allocated to the EU’s R&D and academic mobility programmes, Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, in the bloc’s 2021-27 budget.

MEPs voted on 23 July on a resolution spelling out their opposition to aspects of the budget deal reached by national leaders in the European Council days earlier, approving the text by 465 to 150. The text said the Parliament “does not accept” the Council agreement and “is ready to engage immediately in constructive negotiations with the Council to improve the proposal”.
