Commission president announces plans for biomedical research agency and tackling climate change
Academic leaders offered mixed reactions to the State of the Union speech delivered by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on 16 September, praising her vision but expressing disappointment about the limited attention she paid to research, innovation and education.
Maria da Graça Carvalho, a former academic turned MEP who is a member of the European Parliament’s research committee, welcomed von der Leyen’s announcement that the Commission plans to create an EU agency for biomedical research and development.
