Commission underscores importance of R&D for EU’s future

Forward-looking strategy report summarises major technology challenges and opportunities for the bloc

The EU must support R&D if it is to achieve its central political goals of acting independently, hastening digitisation and mitigating climate change, according to a high-level European Commission report.

To be technologically “sovereign”, the EU must support the development and use of “human-centred knowledge and technologies”, according to the Strategic Foresight Report on the bloc’s capacity and freedom to act, published on 8 September.
