Ministers set to say universities need a role in ERA governance

  

Draft Council position outlines advisory bodies for new-look European Research Area

EU member state governments have sketched out the advisory structures—including input from universities—they want to help them and the European Commission shape research in the bloc through the European Research Area policy package.

The ERA is a 21-year-old effort to harmonise and improve EU research systems that is undergoing major reform due to its slow progress amid increased global R&D competition. Universities have expressed unhappiness at not being more involved in the development of new governance measures for it.
