Synergy Grants

The share of European Research Council Synergy Grants awarded to principal investigators based in Switzerland or the UK has almost halved in the latest funding round, compared with the last one in 2020. Six PIs in the UK and three in Switzerland are participating in 29 projects involving 105 PIs in the 2022 call. The combined share of 8.6 per cent is down from 14.7 per cent in 2020, which involved eight UK-based PIs and nine Switzerland-based PIs in the 34 Synergy Grants. Switzerland and the UK have lost their eligibility to host most ERC grants due to political disagreements with the EU.
