Hungary frozen out of €6.3bn of EU regional funding

                    

But plan for €5.8 billion of Covid funding approved pending rule-of-law reform

The EU’s member state governments have decided to withhold €6.3 billion the bloc was set to provide to Hungary, over concerns its government has not done enough to bolster the rule of law in the country.

The European Commission had suggested freezing €7.5bn in regional cohesion funds because the Hungarian government had failed to implement reforms it had committed to.
