University representatives say they were treated “like member states” in European Research Area meetings
Leaders of university groups have described their involvement in a new form of talks about the European Research Area as “really fruitful”. But they warned that concerns remain about the extent of government commitment to the ERA—the EU-led policy package for joining up research and education across the bloc.
Ten university associations have teamed up to take part in the ERA Forum, which comprises representatives of the European Commission, EU member states and other stakeholders. When this structure was announced in November 2021, some university groups expressed concern that the sector was being sidelined because it would get only one seat at the table.
