This week: Horizon Europe complexity complaints, an innovative universities network and more

The budget for the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme is becoming “increasingly complex” and “less transparent”, university groups have complained. Groups led by the EuroTech Universities Alliance wrote to the European Commission laying out their concerns that Horizon Europe is being used to fund EU political priorities that lie outside of its remit. “This redirection of funds from Horizon Europe to other EU Commission initiatives gives uncertainty to researchers,” they said. The groups added that these initiatives included boosting microchip production and reducing dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
