Internal market commissioner wants more money for European Defence Fund in next long-term budget
The EU must “strengthen the ambition” of its European Defence Fund, including “essential” investment in R&D, the bloc’s internal market commissioner Thierry Breton has said.
The EDF has a budget of about €8 billion for 2021-27, with €2.7bn for collaborative research and €5.3bn for development. It was launched in 2021 after an earlier pilot phase, with the aim of fostering Europe’s defence industry.
