
New top research official in European Commission makes first major public statements since taking office
The EU needs to “raise its game very fast” on research and innovation if it is to meet its political ambitions on areas such as technological autonomy, the new head of the European Commission’s R&I department has warned.
Marc Lemaître (pictured), who started in the role just over four months ago, set out his views on a wide range of R&I topics at a talk in Brussels on 26 June, which was his first major public event discussing his new brief since he moved from heading up regional cohesion policy.
