Support for at-risk academics
The EU has opened a call to pilot a fellowship scheme for at-risk academics, in a bid to address what the European Commission said was the bloc’s current “limited and fragmented” support. The pilot will test procedures for a scheme to award around 30 fellowships to non-EU researchers who face threats in their home country or have recently fled it. A consortium of at least three organisations from EU member states will lead the pilot, with universities, research organisations and civil society organisations eligible. The Commission said it hopes the scheme will contribute to the skills and career development of the supported researchers. Applications are due by 7 September.
