Cloning ban shapes up

The European Commission has adopted draft laws banning the use of cloning on EU farms and the marketing of food from cloned animals.

In addition, the Commission has agreed on a draft law to prohibit the import of animal clones, it said in an announcement on 18 December.

The legislation on cloning will not affect the use of cloned animals in research, conservation of rare or endangered species or medical or pharmaceutical development. Cloning in these circumstances will not be prohibited, the Commission has said.
