Research and technology organisations are preparing to target regional smart specialisation strategies to access funding from the EU’s cohesion policy designated for research and innovation.
Many regions have already begun developing these strategies, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations annual conference heard yesterday (23 May). The plans will determine the allocation of a large amount of structural funds from 2014—meaning organisations must not leave it too late to get involved.
“Don’t wait until the approval of the regulations,” Pierre Godin, a policy analyst from the European Commission told participants at the conference, being held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from 23 to 24 May. “Maybe you think as a member of the research community you are not involved… you should be more active.”
